Hot Water Heater General Maintenance

1^st things you should do in the event of a hot water tank leaking is to turn off the gas if it is a gas or LP tank and electric if it’s an Electric tank

To turn off gas go to the gas cock valve and turn it to the off position or clockwise and if it is electric go to your electric panel and identify the double breaker marked “Hot Water Heater” and turn it off.

To turn off water supply, standing in front of your tank you will notice two water lines going into the top of the tank, the one on your right is the water supply. Turn the valve to the right (clockwise) if it is a gate valve, if it is a ball valve turn the lever to the off position which will be 45 degrees from the open. This will shut off the water supply to the tank and stop or significantly minimize the water leak until one of our plumbers can get to you.
